Brief introduction of the Institute Founded in 1958, the Institute integrates the medical and scientific research and development and production of biological products. It is mainly engaged in the basic and applied research of medical virology, immunology, molecular biology techniques, medical genetics, molecular epidemiology, primate-based experimental animals and animal experiment techniques, as well as the large-scale production of vaccines, immune products and genetic engineering products; It is the "World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Enterovirus Reference Research"; It provides the program for granting master's and doctor's degrees of Peking Union Medical College (School of Medicine, Tsinghua University). The Institute has a long history in production of biological products, and is the largest research and production base of oral poliovirus vaccine in China. Meanwhile, the Institute possesses rich primate resources and animal experiment techniques for a long term. And it is affiliated to National Primate Research Center which is the largest primate experimental research base in China and takes the leading position in primate breeding, reproduction, disease control and heredity
